STORY IN MOST IT COMPANIES
IT Companies is boom boom all around .
If you are working in an IT company, the perception of your status is in totally high compared to other jobs!
Came across a neighbour who is in Groom search, and completly surprised to know her preference..
A tag of Software is in number 1 position in her list of preference.
You may ask what's surprising in that... she is from a stream of arts and feels the IT is supreme!
Its not a story of my neighbour alone, whilst it is most people's perception about the IT'ians.
The salary of IT person is huge compared to other profession? it's an obsession statement!
The fact is always bitter.. :)
Same as other jobs, working in IT is equal with more challenges i can say.
All jobs either White collor /Blue collor will have there own goods and bads.
An bright student (Engineer) in his final semester having campus selected and who's bagged a good job in an IT Company that too in Bangaloreee..... :) feels the bliss of Seventh Heaven.
Immidiate after his semester he will get into the so called Corporate World and from there on starts the learning of corporate culture .. addressing every one by there Name irrespective of how old he or she is.. :)
Working with team of peers, lead ,architects, managers will make him learn deal with people which is not that easy ..
Seniors who are already there would not let take his position so early, its obvious each will look for there job (position) security .
Though initial days you may be outstanding in your work but somehow the credit will indirectly taken by seniors (in most cases).
After a couple of years gaining an experience you may get a promoted from associate to Junior Engineer/Engineer for which you would have stretched 9 to 6 job till 9 or 10! only then you can get extra time to do an outstanding job.
For any new project either waterfall or Agile methodology such process are followed and lets know on how it works..
Managers will plan in such a way that as soon the project is IN , all the break ups (analysis, development , Unit Test, bug fix, blah blah... ) are time lined so close that .. to develop a component he will squeeze the estimation by seeing in high level (if the manager is dummy technically) and actual time to develop may make you streatch!
So to be an outstanding person in your team, just by doing the task will not fetch you any recognition.
People expect you to do some Add on's along with your regular work and again with those many competitors .. uhhhh.... to WIN among all that situation you need more energy to stretch your day, those out of work hours meant for your personal life is spent in proving yourself to get promoted /recognised/ better appraisal ?
But to gain something are we not loosing best time of life?
An young Engineer will be so stressed out he will start behaving double his age and also physically the stress would show up old than what he is ...
Updating yourself with latest technology is a must .
This is evey day life in corporate .. to be in better position always there is a competition and to WIN every day in a competition .. definitely you must be that hard in your work.
So guys is that easy in IT ?
Life of Engineer is not that easy..
Am not against IT.
But the process and the thoughts need flexibility , each may have there own perception but this is what i feel... not necessarily you must feel same .. :) isn't it
