 Thondekayi palya/ Ivy gourd side dish

In every meal we eat, more of vegetables should be added... 
        We have heard a saying, "The vegetables should cover the 60% of our food plate "

Health benefits: Lowers blood sugar, increases the bowel motions,high vitamin C,anti bacterial, anti ulcer, to certain extent pain killer too... 

Starting from the starters & soup till the dessert we can include vegetables in one r other form.
 In soups, salads, curries, starters, biryani & flavored rices, side dishes, kootu... the list will go on and on.. :)

Lets see one such dish now..

Thondekayi Palya

Ingredients required:
Thondekayi/ Ivy Gourd - 1/2 kg
Red chilly                   - 8 to 10 no.
Coriander seeds          - 1 tsp
Cumin seeds               - 1/4 tsp
Garlic                         - 4 pods
Jaggery                      - 1/2 spoon
Coconut                      - 1/2 cup
Cooking oil                  - 3 tsp
Salt to taste

to seasoning:
mustard seeds - 1/4 tsp
urad dhal         - 1/2 tsp
curry leaves      - 1 strand







How to prepare:

  • Clean the vegetable and slit cut each one into 4 pieces.
  • With a spoon of oil, fry the vegetable for couple of minutes.
  • Cook it by adding little water just enough to cook.
  • Meantime, dry roast chilly, coriander seeds, cumin for 2 minutes
  • Make fine powder of the roasted items along with coconut and garlic.
  • In a pan add oil, then season it with the seasoning ingredients
  • Then add the ground paste and fry for about 2 minutes.
  • Add the cooked vegetable and jaggery fry till its dry fry.         

Thondekayi palya is ready to eat, this goes well along rice , rotis, dosa, chapathi.. :)
