Maavinakayi chitranna

Begin of summer.. is begin of Mango season tooo... :)

There are many many delicacies made using Mango as base ingredient.

One special thing is, both sweets as well as salty tangy and hot recipes can be done with mango.
Its king of king in fruits... isn't it :)

Well the very first recipe am gonna share today is "Maavinakayi chitranna"

Ingredients:
Maavinakayi / Mango - 2 No
Cooked rice - 1/2 kg
Cooking oil - 2 tbsp
ground nut seeds - handful
Curry leaves - 2 sticks
Cilantro leaves - 2 sticks
Bengal gram dhal - 1 tsp
Urad dhal - 1 tsp
Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
Turmeric powder- 1/4 tsp
Green chillies - 6 No
Grated coconut - 1/2 cup
Salt to taste
Method of preparation:
  • Clean and grate the raw mango. And keep it aside.
  • In pan, heat the oil
  • Add mustard, let it splutter well. (I keep stressing this line in most recipes, cos the raw mustard leaves bitter taste!), curry leaves
  • Then add groundnut, bengal gram, urad dhal fry for minute or two till crisp.
  • Add chopped green chillies
  • Add salt, turmeric.
  • Then mix in the cooked rice .
  • Put off the flame.
  • And then add grated mango and coconut .
  • Mix well and garnish with cilantro
  • Maavinkayi chitranna is ready to serve.
NOTE: Never heat this again on flame, mango doesn't taste good if cooked.
