Chikadikayi Palya /Broad beans Side dish in 10 minutes VARIETY 1

In South Indian thali, apart from main course we usually see many side dishes like palya, sagu, chutney, chutney pudi, thokku, uppinakayi, appala, sandige, kootu, bajji, bonda, hmmmm... many more :)

Without side dish oota is incomplete.. :) 
Today am here with chikadikayi palya

Ingredients:
Chikadikayi /Broad beans - 250 gms
Onion - 1 medium sized
Grated Coconut - 3 tsp
Mustard - 1/2 tsp
channa dhal - 1/2 tsp
Curry leaves - 1 stick
Green chillies - 2 no
Cooking oil - 3 tsp
salt to taste

Preparation:
  • Clean the chikadikayi , by splitting in between  and chop to an inch length.
  • In pan, heat the oil
  • Add mustard and let it splutter.
  • Then add channa dhal , curry leaves, green chillies, onion and fry for 2 min.
  • Then add cleaned chikadikayi and salt to taste and fry for another 3 min in high flame.
  • Sprinkle some water, to cook the vegetable.
  • Cook till chikadikayi is tender and then at-last add grated coconut .
  • Chikadikayi / broad beans is ready to serve.



Along with hot rice curry this side dish goes well. and also with chapathi.
